Hi all at C.A.N/Indymedia,

I am setting up a group for those aged 15-18 to explore Global Issues and to plan, devise and take local action on a global issue of their choice.

It will meet every Monday night at the Arbury Community Centre (7-9 o clock).

Can anyone who can think of anyone or any groups that might be interested please pass this on?

The open space/forum will involve films, workshops and games, so if anyone can recommend some films (Or preferably lend them for a short time), games and activities etc that would also be really great. Maybe some of you might like to get involved?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please find attached the 'Local Collective' youth group flyer promoting the group which now meets every Monday night between 7-9 at the Arbury Community Centre, to provide a free space/forum for young people to explore global issues and create youth-led projects through the Global Youth Action Project. Please distribute this information to any young people or youth groups which may benefit from attending and also to any organisations you feel might be interested.

I also attach here a leaflet with a summary of the 'Global Youth Action Project' and its activities and below some background information regarding the project.

The Global Youth Action Project:

The Global Youth Action Project (G.Y.A), an innovative project seeking to empower young people (13-18) to take action on global issues, this starts from the young people's own experience and the action is developed by the young people and led by them. The project is supported by Development Education Association and also the Big Lottery Fund.

The Global Youth Action Project (See http://www.globalyouthaction.org.uk/) is hosted by five Development Education Centres (DECs) nationally and in Cambridgeshire by 'The Harambee Centre for Development and Environment Education' (See http://www.harambeecentre.org.uk/).

Participation in the Project usually begins with a 'Global Bite', a bite sized taster session on a specific global issue, for example 'The Arms Trade, Climate Change etc' or in some cases of global issues generally, for example 'What is a global issue? And 'How does it link to my own personal and local experience'. The group can then choose to take up a Global Youth Action Project and access all the opportunities and benefits involved.

Benefits for the young people of taking up a Global Youth Action include training (Youth Worker training, Peer Education training) and support (Workshops, events, resources and facilitation) as well as a grant of up to £500 to implement a project of their choice which takes up action on a global issue as it's focus. The young people can also attend 'Global Collective' (The G.Y.A Youth Network) Residentials and the 'Local Collective' a regular Global Youth Action group which meets at the Arbury Community Centre between 7-9 o'clock every Monday.

If you require any further information or are interested in participating please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Clayton
