MEDIA ALERT April 18, 2007 | For Immediate Release

Voter Fraud: The Imaginary Crime
Available now on www.inthesetimes.com: a two-part investigation into
the illegal firing of eight U.S. attorneys by Joel Bleifuss and Greg
Palast.

To interview the authors, contact Erin Polgreen at

In “The Fraudulence of Voter Fraud,” In These Times Editor Joel
Bleifuss reveals the true story behind the Bush administration’s
illegal purge of U.S. attorneys: they were fired for refusing to
prosecute crimes of voter fraud that never occurred. Since 2005, Bush
has appointed new U.S. attorneys in nine out of the eleven states
that will play a pivotal role in the 2008 elections—and, according to
Bleifuss, “the firings of U.S. attorneys in New Mexico, Arkansas and
Washington appear directly related to [a] Republican plan to exploit
the issue of voter fraud and suppress Democratic turnout.”

“Fradulence” offers inside information unavailable anywhere else,
including:

· How reports on voter fraud released by the American Center for
Voting Rights Legislative Fund were used by Karl Rove with the
express purpose of suppressing Democratic votes in the 2008 election.

· The real reasons behind former-U.S. attorney David C. Iglesias’
removal

And in “The Talented Mr. Griffen,” author and investigative
journalist Greg Palast unmasks newly appointed U.S. attorney Tim
Griffin’s role in the ongoing voter fraud scandal—via confidential
emails Griffin sent to Republican leaders. “The only thing worse than
sacking an honest prosecutor is replacing one with a ‘criminal.”
writes Palast of Griffin.

“Griffin’s dozens of e-mails contained what he called “caging lists”—
And most of the lists were made up of itinerant, vulnerable voters:
students, the homeless and, notably, soldiers sent overseas,” Palast
writes. But if Griffin is such a shady character, why appoint him?

“Perhaps [Karl Rove and Harriet Miers] wanted an operative
experienced in suppressing Democratic turnout in one of the 11
battleground states in the 2008 election.”
