Hi all,

Please join us for this event -- it should be a really interesting
look at how local- and state-level politics and activism can effect
international issues. Please invite as many people as you can!

Best;

EVENT ALERT | Feb. 27, 2007 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Darfur Diaries: Bringing Peace to Sudan

As fresh violence erupts in Sudan, an unprecedented humanitarian
catastrophe looms. But how can we help? Join In These Times on
Thursday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. to learn how the U.S. can help bring
peace to Darfur. Led by Jen Marlowe, author of Darfur Diaries, this
panel discussion will explore the politics of peace-keeping.

Invited guests include Illinois State Sen. Jaqueline Collins and
Darfuri refugee and activist Muhammed Abdul Rahman.

Marlowe will also read from, discuss and sign copies of Darfur
Diaries at this event. The discussion will take place at In These
Times’ offices at 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave. Copies of Darfur Diaries
will be available for purchase at this free event, and donations are
encouraged.

Darfur Diaries offers a better understanding of the situation in
Darfur, a clearer view of how such tragedies impact the lives of
human beings and the motivation towards activism on this and other
human rights issues that should be of global concern. The authors
achieve what the American media has failed to do—it forces us to care
about the Darfurians’ plight by allowing us to hear about their
experience in their own words. By introducing us to a people with
full lives, a rich culture and heritage, the authors demand that this
time we not look away.

Jen Marlowe is a founding member of the "Rachel's Words" initiative
and is currently facilitating a youth peace-building project in
Mostar, Bosnia-Hercegovina. From 2000-2004, she coordinated and
directed a conflict transformation program in Jerusalem, creating and
implementing co-existence programs for hundreds of Palestinian and
Israeli youth. Jen holds a B.A. from University of Pennsylvania in
psychology.
Visuals of the book cover and author are available.
