MEDIA ALERT June 13, 2007 | For Immediate Release

In These Times welcomes new web reporters

In These Times magazine is pleased to announce the addition of
investigative journalists Lindsay Beyerstein and Megan Tady to its team
of writers as part of a generous grant from the Puffin Foundation First
Amendment Fund. Beyerstein and Tady’s muckraking will appear weekly on
www.inthesetimes.com.

Beyerstein and Tady are available for interview on a variety of social
issue topics, including labor, the environment, immigration, corporate
accountability, public health and civil liberties. For more
information, contact Associate Publisher Erin Polgreen at
erin at inthesetimes.com.

Lindsay Beyerstein is an investigative photojournalist and blogger
based in New York. In 2005, Beyerstein traveled to New Orleans to cover
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina via her blog, Majikthise
(http://majikthise.typepad.com). Beyerstein’s live coverage of Tom
DeLay's first court appearance on money laundering charges was entirely
funded by Majikthise readers. She has also covered the New York Transit
Strike and the closing days of the Allen/Webb Virginia Senate race.
Beyerstein’s writing has appeared in Salon, Slate, Time, the New York
Press, AlterNet and the Austin Chronicle.

“I hope to cover a variety of issues,” Beyerstein says. “I'm passionate
about labor, immigration, public corruption, and women's issues, and
[have plans] to write about the many ways in which privatization is
undermining democracy--from the Blackwater mercenaries fighting
America's wars to the right-wing think tanks writing our public school
textbooks.”

“At What Price Victory?”, Beyerstein’s first article for In These
Times, parses the House Democrats’ proposal to increase funding for the
discredited and controversial Community-Based Abstinence Education
program. For the full text of this article, visit:
http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/3224.

Megan Tady is a freelance journalist based in western Massachusetts. As
a staff reporter for The NewStandard, Tady authored nearly 100
articles, including an investigation into the New Jersey government’s
attempts to buy polluted land for low-income schools and an exposé of
the U.S. government’s collaboration with a biotech firm to hide
contaminated genetically engineered rice from the public. Tady’s
investigative reporting has appeared in Clamor, CommonDreams, E
(Environmental) Magazine, Maisonneuve, PopandPolitics, Reuters and
Toward Freedom.
