Cheney and Libby: Lying about Lying
Do two lies make a truth? In “Cheney and Libby: Lying about Lying,”
Marcy Wheeler, a pivotal liveblogger of the Libby trial, uncovers the
real news: the Office of the Vice President has a serious aversion to
telling the truth.

In “Cheney,” Wheeler uses evidence introduced in the Libby trial to
track the lies from the Office of the Vice President, beginning with
its bumbled response to Joseph Wilson’s July 6, 2003 op-ed which
contradicted the President’s State of the Union address on the topic
of Iraq’s nuclear arsenal.

“The Office of the Vice President (OVP)—specifically Vice President
Dick Cheney, Libby and Cathie Martin, Cheney’s press secretary—tried
to cover-up the Bush administration’s original lies to Congress and
the American people about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction with more
lies,” writes Wheeler.

Ultimately, “when confronted with their lying, [Cheney’s office]
acted indignant, responded with another lie and then tried—again—to
cook the evidence.”
