Deliver Your Message
"When people deal with the media they often just answer a reporter's
question," says Steve Mongeluzzo, leader of the upcoming Delivering
Your Messages During Media Interviews workshop. "I tell them to answer
the question, then bridge to the message. Tell the audience what you
want them to do and how it will benefit them or prevent a negative
consequence."
Mongelluzzo has recently led workshops at Elgin Community College and
the Metropolitan Library System and spoken on media relations before
the Illinois Municipal League and American Public Works Administrators
national conference. He will share his lessons learned from handling
the media for government agencies for more than 20 years with Workshop
attendees in two half-day sessions Thursday, Sept. 24 and Thursday,
Oct. 4.
“With two days we’ll have time to do some role plays, but we’ll also
cover positioning your organization for success before the media
calls, the dos and don’ts to practice during interviews and the
tactics reporters use to get you on the record,” he says.
The $135 cost of the two half-day sessions includes a copy of his book
Winning Media Interviews (a $25 value).

People to Pitch
“My goal is to inform you on how you can save money, find a deal,
avoid scams and make life easier,” says Dorothy Tucker, consumer
reporter for CBS 2. Tucker covers “news you can use” and does not
review products or cover stories concerning medical issues. A pitch
grabs her attention when it is about helping a lot of people. She is
on TV four out of five nights a week and prefers to be pitched by
email at dmtucker at cbs.com.
