Candidate for 44th Ward Alderman, David Winner, removed his name from the
ballot today citing difficulties raising money in a tough economy as chief
among the reasoning for his departure:

“This has been an incredible journey and I have learned so much in the year
I’ve spent running for 44th Ward Alderman. Ultimately, our inability to
raise the money necessary for running a competitive campaign has proven to
be too large an obstacle. “

“The 44th Ward is a great ward with great potential and I look forward to
remaining active in this community. Crime must be put into check,
especially after yesterday’s attack. We must remain vigilant in protecting
the identity of our neighborhood from overdevelopment and suburbanization.
We need to provide better high school options in Lakeview to ensure our
children receive a first class education. For the sake of Chicago’s
financial well-being, we must put an end to the pawning of our city to the
highest bidder with bad deals like the parking meters.”

“These and many other issues are the reason I sought this seat and they will
continue to motivate my involvement in the 44th Ward. I want to thank all my
volunteers and contributors whose passion for making this ward the best it
can be have fueled me through this entire process.”
