Campaign for Better Health Care Urges Health Care Reform Supporters to "Leave Your Empty Shoes Behind" During Congressional Recess

WHO: Members of the Campaign for Better Health Care across Illinois

WHAT: People will visit their congressperson's office and drop off an old pair of shoes with a note inside to represent the Illinoisans who have died for lack of health care, and the 50,000 people who will die this year because they are uninsured.

WHEN: Shoe drop off at district Congressional offices starts Feb. 12. As part of the campaign, on Tuesday, February 16, the Campaign for Better Health Care's Faith Caucus will conduct "die-ins" in Chicago and Springfield, to introduce a Families USA report examining the number of deaths in Illinois between 1995 - 2009 due to a lack of health care, and projections on the deaths expected between 2010 - 2019 if Congress does not pass reform.

WHERE: Congressional District offices throughout the state of Illinois

WHY: Members of Congress need to know that their delay in passing comprehensive health care reform is impacting the lives of real Americans. It is time they listened to hardworking Americans and not the insurance companies that are more interested in their profits than our health. A Washington Post/ABC poll of February 10 shows that 63% of Americanswant Congress to keep moving ahead with health care reform, to GET IT DONE and to get it done right!
