America has a continuing, egregious VIOLENCE CULTURE that results in periodic appalling mass murder domestically and sustained active and passive mass murder (especially of Women and Children) abroad. Half the Palestinians, Iraqi and Afghans are Children and about three quarters are Women and Children. ....this further American Massacre has to be seen in the wider context of US history from the first English colonial settlement in Jamestown, Virginia (1607) and thence from Independence in 1776 to the present. America's history has been a bloody story of sustained racism, violence and genocide. 

Between First Settlement and 1776 the English settlers engaged in occupation, dispossession and mass murder of the Indigenous Indians, the killing mechanisms involving dispossession (and thence starvation), guns and even biological warfare (e.g. use of smallpox-carrying blankets to spread disease among the Indian population) (see: Chalk, F. & Jonassohn, K. (1990), The History and Sociology of Genocide. Analyses and Case Studies (Yale University Press, New Haven)).

While American propaganda gives US Independence in 1776 as a victory for the "Enlightenment and Democracy", the cruel reality was that independence from England gave the Americans carte blanche to invade Indian lands to the West (prohibited at the time by the English for complex diplomatic and strategic reasons, as I have confirmed in recent discussion with an eminent American History scholar). The genocide of the American Indians followed inexorably from the immediate post-1776 movement westward, through Jackson's 1830 "Indian Removal Act" to remove Indians from lands east of the Mississippi, the conquest of the Plains and thence the final decimation of the Pacific coast Indians (see: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4p2959.html ).

The genocide continued with the conquest of Hawaii (1898), American Samoa (1899) and former Spanish colonies from the Caribbean to the Philippines (where the 1899-1902 Philippines War cost 1 million Filipino lives). In the 20th century American imperialism dominated Latin America and in the post-1950 era left a bloody footprint in Africa (backing civil wars) and in Asia, where the post-1950 US Asian Wars have been associated (so far) with 19 million excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to happen). 

Most of this appalling carnage has been swept under the carpet....Yet America acts as though it owns the world. Indeed the carnage of US imperialism and US "democratic imperialism" ( democratic tyranny, democratic Nazism) will be exceeded by Climate Genocide due to American Climate Criminals....

The past and present US mass murder and genocide is largely un-reported by lying, racist, genocide-ignoring Mainstream media and Racist Bush-ite (RB) America (and its lackey Racist White Australia)... The Mainstream media coverage of the appalling Blacksburg Massacre (33 deaths in total including that of the perpetrator) contrasts with failure of Mainstream media to report that on the 4th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq the post-invasion excess deaths totaled 1 million (see Countercurrents: http://www.countercurrents.org/iraq-polya220307.htm )..... 

The Blacksburg Massacre was enabled because America is awash with guns, has a power-obsessed, abusive and racist culture and IGNORES the appalling human consequences of its actions.

WHY [western] DEMOCRACY IS WRONG 
Democracy does not deserve the semi-sacred status accorded to it. In Europe, democratically elected politicians such as Jörg Haider, Jean-Marie Le Pen, Silvio Berlusconi, Umberto Bossi, Gianfranco Fini and Pim Fortuyn are a reminder of democracy's defects: an anti-racist dictatorship is preferable to a racist democracy. 'Democracy' is expanding globally, but not because of its moral superiority. Military intervention is now the standard origin of 'democratic' political systems...Below, more on the ethical problems, definitions of democracy, the issue of inequality, the defects of democratic culture, the nation as the 'demos', the claimed justifications for democracy, and alternatives to democracy.

In a large ocean there are two neighbouring islands: faultless democracies with full civil and political rights. One island is extremely rich and prosperous, and has 10 million inhabitants. The other is extremely poor: it has 100 million inhabitants, who live by subsistence farming. After a bad harvest last year, there are no food stocks, and now the harvest has failed again: 90 million people are facing death by starvation. The democratically elected government of the poor island asks for help, and the democratically elected government of the rich island organises a referendum on the issue. There are three options: Option A is a sharp increase in taxes, to pay for large-scale permanent structural transfers to the poor island. Option B is some increase in taxes, to pay for immediate and sufficient humanitarian aid, so that famine will be averted. Option C is no extra taxes and no aid. When the votes are counted, 100% of the voters have chosen Option C. After all, who wants to pay more taxes? 
So 90 million people starve. Yet all electoral procedures on both islands are free and fair, the media are free, political campaigning is free, there is no political repression of any kind. According to democratic theory, any outcome of this democratic process must be respected. Two perfect democracies have functioned perfectly: if you believe the supporters of democracy, that is morally admirable. But it clearly is not: there is something fundamentally wrong with democracy, if it allows this outcome. 

The defect is not hard to find: the people most affected by the decision are excluded from voting. The issue is the composition of the demos, the decision-making unit in a democracy: it is a recurrent theme in the ethics of democracy. Democratic theory can legitimise a political community in the form of an island of prosperity, and then legitimise the selfish decisions of that community. This theoretical possibility corresponds with the real-world western 'democracies'. Millions of people are dying of hunger and preventable disease, yet the electorate in rich democracies will not accept mass transfers of wealth to poorer countries [in fact will not accept to STOP the plunder of other countruies made 'poor' -by the plunder-GZ] . They will not accept mass immigration from those countries either [caused directly  by their own nations/countries' thivery to the 'immigrants'GZ]. A causal relationship has developed at global level, between "democracy" in the rich countries, and excess mortality elsewhere (famine, epidemics, endemic diseases). 

This is not the only such problem with democracy. Despite its quasi-sacred status, democracy has many ethical defects which are either evident in practice, or easily illustrated by hypothetical examples....
