There are actually a few local sites which have been aggregating blogs
as a "blogwire" for some time. The first I know to start doing this
was nyc.indymedia.org.

Really notable(no offense nyc!) however is philly.indymedia.org, which
has done not only a nice job of doing blog aggregation on their front
page, but also by following through and creating a pretty amazing
group blog(http://www.allforthetaking.org/) and getting alot of people
working on housing issues/anti-gentrification struggles to contribute
to it.
