> 1) Survey Part 1 - Personal Details

a) Your name? Lee L. Bell
b) Your geographic location? Dallas, Texas, USA
c) How long have you worked with Bitweaver and what work do you do with the
project? I joined the bitweaver team shortly after the split with tikiwiki
(10-30-03). It was named TikiPro at that point. My knowledge level was not
great when I started and contented myself with documentation. I started
working on the plugins that bw uses everywhere. For personal reasons I have
been unable to be very active durring the last year. At present I am
develloping my first package.
d) Do you work on any other CMS projects? I am still a member of tikiwiki
but I am not active on it.

> 2) Survey Part 2 - CMS Basics
> a) What programming language is Bitweaver written in? PHP with Smarty
> templates. JavaScript plays an important roll as well.
>
> b) What is the backend database used by Bitweaver? bitweaver uses the
> adodb package which allows several databases to be used including: MySQL /
> Postgress and many more.

> c) Are there other servers required (application server, Tomcat, etc)?
> not sure what your asking here. I use Apache on my test sites but windows
> ISS works as well.
>
> d) How do you describe the overall software design of Bitweaver? the
> structure of bitweaver was designed from the ground up to be expanded.
> DataBase access is constantly being trimed and optomized while the use of
> cache files increases. There is more work to be done but it is fairly lean
> an mean.
>
> e) Can you give details about real-world scaleability considerations
> for Bitweaver? Not really.
>
> 3) Survey Part 3 - CMS Functionality
> a) A core feature of our software is the ability for anonymous users to
> post media to appear on the site. Is this easily added to a site using
> Bitweaver? Yes - Anonymous users can be allowed to post. A bw site can be
> configured to limit the amout of access that any group has.
>
> b) Can you describe the site search functionality available? There are
> several levels of searching available. The best uses the Lucene package for
> very fast database searches. This is aided by the Liberty package which
> stores most of the data in a single dbase.
>
> c) How is RSS/XML/RDF support included? RSS Yes / Not sure beyond that.
>
> d) We would like to have one server per site which allows many
> instances of actual websites, each with different admin logins and different
> websites altogether. Is this easy to set up with Bitweaver? Definatly.
> Although I have not done this it is possible. The primary site for bitweaver
> links several sites using one set of code with shared dbase tables for
> users.
>
> e) Can you describe the multimedia support in the software? We allow
> users to upload and manipulate online all types of media - mpeg, mp3, ogg,
> jpg, pdf, etc. Again this is something that I personally haven't done. I
> have included flash PDF and Java applets in wiki pages
>
> f) Internationalization is very important to us. Many of our sites
> support 2-3 or more languages. Can you describe how this is accomplished in
> Bitweaver? Not very well at present. Most text that the application uses is
> encased in tra (or tr for Smarty templates) function calls. A seperate
> routine combines all of these strings into a master listing which can then
> be interpreted by someone who speaks another language. If the string exists
> for a given language it is used. If not . . . .
>

>
> h) Is there a calendar included in the codebase? Yes
>

> functionality? This depends in part on how the site is configured. The
> FckEditor is included but other editors are also available. Knowledge of
> HTML is not necessary.

>
> l) Another important feature for us is networking between the websites.
> If we want users from one website to have rights on another website in the
