well....open publishing on the global site is broken.
personally i think it should be fixed - i think it should be a component of the
global site, regardless of syndication.

maybe others have thoughts on the issue...

first: to say that the most appropriate list for these discussions is the
www-tech AT lists.indymedia.org mailing list, as that is specifically for the
global site.

second: to say, the hell with it! why don't we just get rid of the
open-publishing on the global indymedia site?

reasonning: there appears to have been a lack of interest in maintaining this
aspect of the site for several years now - i'm talking here in terms of
editorial policy, newswire cleaning etc. the majority of people are much more
concerned with looking after their local sites, and occasionally proposing
suitable articles to the global site which may be of interest to others around
the world.

furthermore, there was a decision made a while back to switch the main newswire
column from open-posting to syndication of local imc features (i think about 2
years ago, but i'm not entirely sure about that). following a migration to a new
server a few weeks ago, the open-posting function has been broken - and is
really *not* a high priority of the techs involved to fix: there is much other
work that needs to be done within the indymedia community also.

of course, i think this will require some discussion with both the global
features lists and also places such as imc-communication and imc-process, but i
thought that first it would be good to get some feedback from (involved and
not-involved) techs who may or may not wish to work on (fixing and maintaining)
this aspect of the site.
