I also think it's a good idea, and I think that IRC would suffice - if we
bothered to use SILC, we'd have to make sure that every participant was
trusted, and I don't think that's logistically feasible. In other words,
there's no point using encryption when you don't know (and consequently
have no reason to trust) the majority of people on the line. Folks who
need to keep local network snoops (their boss?) from seeing what they're
doing can use SSL to the IRC server.
IRC clients are far more ubiquitous than SLIC clients, and I say that as
someone who has both.
