Hey comrades,

I just recently updated the targetwto website and thought you might me
interested in it. See news briefs below. There is also a section for
mobilization against IMF/World Bank meeting in Singapore at the website
that I just inserted. You can access news on the mobilization directly
from here: http://targetwto.revolt.org/taxonomy_menu/2/10/91

I also hope you will continue adding content, news and events to the
targetwto website and keep it moving. And if you have connections with
groups in Singapore, please forward so we can all network on alternative
media publicity

Lastly, is there an interest in creating a targetwto email list, where
we can network, share news updates, organize or do you think you are on
enough lists?

best,
amardeep

TRADE: Requiem for the WTO <http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/326>
by Gustavo Capdevila GENEVA, Aug 2 (IPS) - Civil society activists, who
early on foretold the inevitable collapse of the Doha Round, are now
predicting the beginning of the end for the World Trade Organisation
(WTO) itself, which sponsored the failed negotiations. "My sense is that
it is a very mortally wounded organisation at this point," said Walden
Bello, executive director of Focus on the Global South and sociology
professor at the University of the Philippines.

Call for Global Actions Against International Financial Institutions -
SEPTEMBER 14-20, 2006 <http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/324>
by Jubilee South, For more than sixty years, the International Monetary
Fund and the World Bank together with their partner regional development
banks and export credit agencies, have used international finance
capital to exercise control and restructure the societies of the South
to serve the interests of global private corporations and the economic
and geo-political agenda of the few powerful nations that control these
institutions. The resulting effects on people's lives, on communities,
on the environment, and on the economic as well as political structures
in the South have been profound and over the years have generated
numerous resistance struggles against these institutions.

Show solidarity against World Bank/IMF meetings in Singapore - Sept. 14
- 20, 2006 <http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/323>
by Mobilization for Global Justice (MGJ), July 12, 2006 -
http://www.globalizethis.org/ Mobilization for Global Justice (MGJ) has
endorsed the following call, written and distributed by Jubilee South, a
coalition of social movements throughout the Global South who are
resisting illegitimate debts and IMF/World Bank policies. The statement
calls on people worldwide to take action in their own communities
against the IMF/World Bank the week of September 14-20, while the
institutions meet in Singapore.

Singapore, Unused to Protests, Girds for World Bank Meetings
<http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/322>
from / singabloodypore.blogspot.com / July 28 (Bloomberg) -- Singapore
police last week clashed with about 30 Molotov cocktail-wielding
demonstrators, dispersing the crowd with a water cannon and a charge by
baton-wielding officers clad in body armor. U.K.-based ``security
experts'' and local police officers played the role of rioters in the
battle, a dress rehearsal for International Monetary Fund and World Bank
meetings here in September which are expected to attract protests from
anti- globalization and other groups.

Singapore to Ban Outdoor Protests at IMF Meeting
<http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/321>
from /singabloodypore.blogspot.com/ 2006/7/28, SINGAPORE (AP) Singapore
will not allow outdoor demonstrations during the upcoming annual meeting
of the IMF and World Bank, but will set up an indoor venue for
registered civil groups, the police chief of staff announced Friday. Soh
Wai Wah told a news conference that outdoor protests during the Sept.
11-20 meetings would compromise security, could be exploited by
terrorists, and disrupt the day-to-day activities of the area, making
things "unpleasant" for residents.

Immigration, the IMF, and the World Bank
<http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/325>
by Mobilization for Global Justice www.globalizethis.org ::
mgj em riseup.net One of the greatest ironies in this age of corporate-led
globalization is that while economies become increasingly connected --
through free markets, unregulated trade and capital flows,
privatization, and corporate expansion -- this model of globalization
denies millions of people the same free flow across national borders
that the controllers of goods and capital enjoy.

WTO Talks Collapse -- Good News for the Developing World
<http://targetwto.revolt.org/node/319>
Saturday, 01 July 2006 - from Focus on the Global South The illegitimate
Mini Ministerial which the WTO's Director General Pascal Lamy convened
in Geneva came to a standstill as the US refused to offer further cuts
in their domestic supports, whilst at the same time demanding that the
developing world reduce their agricultural tariffs. The collapse of
talks is good news for the developing world. Assessments of the outcome
of the Doha Round, from a variety of institutions, including the World
Bank and the EU's own Sustainability Impact Assessment, have already
predicted that the Round would have adverse impacts on the poorest
countries, particularly countries in Africa. Both the US and the EU have
been aggressive in demanding for market access in industrial products,
and the US for more access in agriculture. Yet despite being the prime
culprits for dumping their agricultural products on the world market,
causing destruction to the livelihoods of subsistence farmers, both
these giants have only offered cosmetic cuts in their agricultural
domestic supports.

Target: WTO | CommonFront | is maintained by an autonomous network of
direct action activists and allies who are adversely affected by WTO
policies. It was created during the struggle against MC6 in Hong Kong.
We believe MC6 resistance is multitudinal, arising from and going in all
directions. Since its creation, targetwto has grown with worldwide
impact providing alternative media coverage on MC6 and prisoner
solidarity, documenting stories and news regarding under-represented
people in Asia, creating action at MC6 and solidarities actions
internationally.
