Friends at imc-communication,

I'm writing to ask for your support to intervene and to state your
group's positions to various global imc bodies on the following problem.

It is on a case of a "distant and foreign" imc group, in Darwin,
Australia. Another imc group from about 2500 miles away also in
Australia, Melbourne-imc, is proposing to all of us globally that the
Darwin group should either expell one of its members (Mick Lambe, the
most active member) or the whole group be expelled from indymedia.

This would sound like lunacy, except that one more imc group - in
distant Europe! - has now given support to this proposal on global imc
bodies.

The story of how we got to this point is very long and twisted. I'm one
of the members of the new-imc work group who has worked within the
efforts to help resolve the conflict within and around the Darwin-imc
group, and I know that there are other alternatives being pursued which
are much more in harmony with our principles of unity and our editorial
policies with bind together indymedia both in letter and in spirit.

But the essence of it is this:

1. There is already a formal procedure going on with the new-imc group
working to resolve the problems. Any decision of this kind will torpedo
the possibility of new-imc ever having any credibility to determine
situations within its jurisdiction.

2. If this proposal passes, any one of us, any other individual member
of imc, or entire group might become "unpopular" and without due process
nor any recourse to defence then might face the same ultimatum: either
accept an intervention by another group, or be expelled. This will undo
whatever little democracy is left among us.

If you would like to see some more items on this issue, there are links
below.

We have a crucial time constraint, because of the deadline of the
proposal. We need to have at least one imc group point out that the
proposal is in violation of many of indymedia's cardinal principles and
of its current procedures.

I would like to invite you to examine the current situation and please,
state to imc global bodies your opposition to this proposal - also
please propose alternative solutions to the conflict, or lend your
support to those that are already in process.
