Friends at www-features editorial group,

I've just received word from one of our people in Beirut, Raida Hatoum.
Raida is a founding member of IndyMedia there and an important contact
in many of the struggles in the region. She is also a liaison to some of
our comrades in Palestine. I'm happy to report that she's safe for now
...but, like all of us I worry. What does "safe" mean, or what will this
may mean a few minutes from now, in a place where bombs and rockets are
the factor determining the reality of life and death?

As you might know, our indymedia groups and sites in Palestine (imc
Jerusalem) and in Lebanon (Beirut), are out of commission - have been,
actually for a while. I feel bad that in this current time of crisis, we
have been directing our international readers to those sites but there's
nothing to find there. I hope we can compensate for that with better
reporting on our global site, at
http://www.indymedia.org

In this next half hour I'll be putting together the report from Raida
with a few more items from the new war front in Lebanon and I hope that
we can find a way to put in on the Features (central column) of our
global site.

I'm aware that our consensus procedures are slow. (It took more than a
whole day to agree to publish the previous article that's currently on
the top). If any of you have some way to help speed up the consensus or
editorial process, to improve our efficiency, it would be greatly
appreciated.

I'll send more about this as soon as we have the materials ready.

Thank you very much,
Petros
Cyprus IndyMedia volunteer
