Greetings.
This is actually an email that I had hoped
to forward to the guys at LA Indy Media --
John and whoever else might be keeping things
running over there. If I got the wrong email
address for LA Indy, would you _please_
forward my email to the approprate person?
I'll make a note of the proper address if I
get a response. -- With my thanks! --
There's a small window of opportunity for me
to perform an in-camera interview of one Mr.
Reed Slatkin, current "client" and inmate of
the Department of Corrections here in Southern
California. Mr. Slatkin is unique in that he
holds the record for the single most largest
Ponzi-like scam ever committed in the U. S.
I have video journalist Mark Bunker lined up
to participate in such an interview. (You can
google both names to get some background on
what it is I'm trying to get set up.)
What I need to do is represent LAIndy Media in
such an interview of the prisoner and to do
that I'd need to FAX the private company that
is contracted by the Department of Corrections
and on that FAX I need to outline my proposed
interview.
Now I understand that Indy Media relies upon
individuals acting on their own to produce news
however the DOC _requires_ a level of legitimacy
behind who sends them requests for inmate
interviews.
Can LAIndy help me with this? I'd need to get
an official, temporary press credential from
LAIndy, then I'd need to write-up my proposal
on an LAIndy letterhead of some kind, then I'd
need to FAX it in to the private company that's
contracted to the DOC.
The DOC contractor would then need to examine
my proposal and determine whether to forward
it to Mr. Slatkin and then Mr. Slatkin would
need to either decline or accept the interview
that I propose.
One of the major issues involving such a
project is that nobody -- absolutely no one --
has yet managed to score an interview with Mr.
Slatkin solely because he's "well looked after"
by his Scientology colleagues who I'm told get
to control his prison schedule to some degree.
But probably an even better reason to scoop an
LAIndy exclusive of Mr. Slatkin is the fact
that there were several motions in limline in
the criminal trial and then the sentencing
phases of the guy's proceedings.
It's possible that after stewing in prison for
several years, maybe Mr. Slatkin would be
willing to discuss everything about his crimes
and about Scientology that was suppressed in
various court rooms.
If possible, I'll attempt to establish an
interview with Mr. Slatkin as an individual yet
I doubt that the prison's owners and operators
accept "bloggers" or other solitary Internet
entities as legitimate reporters. Mr. Mark
Bunker, however, has an extensive background in
reporting so that's a plus.
Comments? Suggestions? If you would, please
let me know whether LAIndy credentials can be
tendered for the duration of such a project.
Thanks!
