Imc-communication,

Several months ago the 'payment-discuss at lists.indymedia.org'
discussion list began as a place for honest and open dialogue about
issues relating to the use of money within the Indymedia network,
most directly the practice of IMCs paying individuals for certain
tasks. When the list began we promised to send regular updates about
its progress. 'Regular' has turned to 'irregular,' but at least
here's an update.

After an initial burst of list discussion, mainy in February, about
the merits of paying people for certain tasks versus the 'slippery
slope' of bringing money into Indymedia (check out the archives:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/payment-discuss), many people on
the list decided that the group needs more information about the way
local IMCs relate to money before coming up with any proposal or
statement. Various members of the list contributed to the creation
of a 'consulta':
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/IndymediaPaymentConsulta. The
plan was/is to send this consulta out to every local IMC. So far,
there have been several translations of the consulta, but it hasn't
been distributed. Here are some translations:

English:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/IndymediaPaymentConsulta#Indymedia_Consulta_en

Spanish:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/IndymediaPaymentConsulta#Indymedia_Consulta_es

French:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/payment-discuss/2007-March/0309-h7.html

Portuguese:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/IndymediaPaymentConsulta#Indymedia_Consulta_pt

Lately there has been very little traffic on the payment-discuss
list. The 'consulta' seems to have stalled, but the next burst of
payment-discuss list energy may result in it being sent out to local
IMCs. Plus, there is now a space within the network for discussion
of payment and money issues, so when the topic flares up again, we'll
have a place to discuss it.
