Hi,
I want to call the attention to the network about what is going on in
ecuador. 5 conrads from indymedia ecuador were arrested on tuesday, last
week. The reasons were not gave at the moment of the arrest. They were
took by interpol and the special police of the country. Their belongs
were taken as well, computers, books, posters, zines etc.
During the time they were in jail, they were not allowed to talk with
their lawyer, they were separated from each other and interrogated.

As you can read on the first communicate release:
http://ecuador.indymedia.org/es/2008/05/25115.shtml
(spanish)

On may 8, another communicate was released:
http://ecuador.indymedia.org/es/2008/05/25123.shtml
(spanish)

Giving the information that 4 of the 5 was released. Also that there are
rumors that others conrads from indymedia ecuador are being investigated
as well, and might have their houses raided by the cops/interpol as well.

On may 10, another communicate was released:
http://ecuador.indymedia.org/es/2008/05/25138.shtml
(spanish)

This communicate tells us that the other conrad who still arrested,
Guillermo León García Aristizabal, comrad from colombia who live in
ecuador and participates on indymedia ecuador. Are still in jail,
according to interpol the reason is for having an illegal document with
him. Even though that doesnt justify the facts that happened on the
night of may 6, when they were arrested and their houses raided, and
their belongs confiscated.

I would like to ask for the support of the network on this case, to help
with translation to english and other languages - indymedia brasil is
translating stuff to portuguese. Letters from other collectives would
help the people from indymedia ecuador as well. Put this information on
the global features and on other indymedia features would help. Spread
the word as fast as we can.

Thanks
toya
