Dear IMC Cape Town,
I'm a radio documentarian currently working at Bush Community Radio, and
have been given carte-blanche to produce political pieces for broadcast.
I've decided to produce a series on the local elections here in the Cape,
interviewing all the major mayoral candidates, township folk and activist
NGOs, and compile short theme-based documentaries (eg. an hour-long program
on housing, with all the "service-delivery plans" of the different political
parties...contrasted against the reality of the township poor and the words
of the involved NGOs).
I confess that it's been a steep learning curve. I was last in IMC Chiapas,
trekking around with the Zapatista "Other Campaign" caravan, and only
recently crash-landed in Cape Town. But I am going to be here for awhile,
and I'm very interested in hearing more about community resistance movements
here...and we finally arrive at the point of this email: I'm hoping to do
interviews with some of you to use in these radio broadcasts, or even if
you're unwilling to be recorded, I would love just to sit down and talk over
some of these issues over a hot cup of Rooibus tea.
Let me know if you're available.
(I've recently finished Prof. Desai's "We are the Poors", and am working
through "Against Global Apartheid", so I shouldn't be totally uninformed.
But I'll make no promises...)
