My name is Jessica Miller and I am an American working on a Fulbright
application to conduct research in South Africa in August 2007-May 2008. . I
see media literacy as crucial to increasing participation in a democratic
society, and have learned that South Africa is moving forward with its media
literacy programs. I am interested in researching the media literacy/
education provided by various media outlets for teachers and schools. I then
hope to analyze the implementation and effectiveness of these programs in
order to facilitate increased use of such programs in the classroom.
I was hoping contact someone from your organization who works on the
development of media education tools that are used in classrooms, and who
might be willing to allow me to volunteer with your organization while
conducting research on this subject. I have a bachelors degree in journalism
from the University of Wisconsin, and a Masters degree in education from
Loyola Marymount University. I believe connecting education and media
literacy is critical for democratic development.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jessica Miller
