Genny,
*You can obviously post to Indy UK and also to The SFC Forum (News Space, and the Themed Networks Threads.
*'It's (?) also very user friendly and easy to post pictures etc,.'
I suppose you refer here to the Indy UK site.
The SFCymru Forum 'Newsline - Forum' site is under discussion by a group of people interested in developing it into a cutting edge (Technically), highly user friendly
site - capable of handling pictures, radio type clips (or speeches, interviews), Audio-Visual stuff, Graphics, Cartoons and, of course text.
The existing people interested includes - the existing site administrator, two top IT Specialists with British, European, World Journalism experience, a Professor of Computer Science at a Welsh University, various post-grad students of IT, a journalist with Wales, Brit, European, World experience - with offers of support from Open Source
experts and practitioners from around South Wales, Continental Europe etc,.
There will be a meeting of some of these people possibly in October/November - details will be posted and invitations sent out when known.
* 'Does the existence of the SFCymru Forum mean that a Wales Indymedia site is not needed?'.
I think we should discuss this in the light of the info just given.
*' ...at least there's a Wales 'REGIONAL' button on the UK list.'
I see no reason for there not to be a link to the SFC Forum site from the Indymedia UK site - we can discuss this with them.
I would think that all people in the group mentioned would certainly not go along with
any concept that doesn't see Cymru/Wales as a Nation.
We are also interested in having links to and from European and World - Social Forum and Indymedia, other 'Alternative' 'Non/Anti Corporate' Media Outfits.
*' ..issue of Indymedia being isolated from existing activist networks...'
This was discussed at Aberystwyth not as a Welsh issue but an Indymedia UK, European and World Indymedia issue. This was also discussed at the ESF in Athina/Athens ESF.
Hwyl, Salud.

Yeah, I am already a member of the sfcymru forum. Although I came to Social Forum Cymru in May, unfortunately I didn't get to any of the alternative media workshops so wasn't aware of the discussion around this topic. Anyway, I'm not against posting to that forum in principle, just that in practice and with limited time, the option of posting an item to indymedia uk and ticking a box for it to also be posted to a Welsh indymedia site is very attractive (ie I'm more likely to do this). Also, it's very user-friendly and easy to post pictures etc.
Does the existence of the sfcymru forum mean that a Wales indymedia site is not needed? I think it would be possible to have both, so that at least there's a Wales regional button on the uk list. Re. the issue of whether indymedia is isolated from existing activist networks, are you just talking about Wales? I'm not aware of this criticism myself. If it's a Wales issue, then maybe having a Wales site would rectify it...

From the Social Forum Cymru(Wales) in Aberystwyth (end April - May 1st 2006.
www.socialforumcymru.org.uk ) a number of people supported the idea of developing an 'Indymedia Cymru' type space linked to the SFCymru site Forum.
This Forum was & is hosted by the Cynefin y Werin / Common Ground website.
This space IS NOW OPERATING in an embryo form AT:
LATEST INTERNATIONAL, EUROPEAN and NATIONAL NEWS
www.cynefinywerin.org.uk/forum/
Please contribute to it.
The advantage of this model was seen in that it is linked to the all-Wales activist networks who came together to form the Social Forum Cymru and who's activities are described and discussed on the Themed Networks sections on the Forum.
This model of Activist Network - linked 'Alternative Media' was also discussed in various Media Activist Seminars/Workshops at the European Social Forum in Athina/Athens in May 2006 and will be developed at the European Preparatory Assembly(ESF) in Frankfort Am Main, Germany this November coming.
The weakness of the Indymedia United Kollectives model is seen as it's general isolation from the existing Activists Networks.
