*(BrAuM) It appears to - given the will.

'I hadn't appreciated the politics of indymedia verses some other form of independent media and the national issue etc,....'
*(BAM)1. A Social Forum Cymru is in process of development now since the SFC event in Aberystwyth www.socialforumcymru.org.uk .
This is a Welsh National Forum, just as is the 'National Assembly for(!) Wales' is a Welsh National organisation.
2.The politics of an Independent Media based on the SocialForumCymru Forum hosted at:
www.cynefinywerin.org.uk/forum/ was dicussed at Aberystwyth. This concept is based on the politics of the Social Forum movement (see www.worldsocialforum.org
   - 'Charter of Principles').
It's a NEW concept and, to my knowledge, was first muted from an Irish-Iraqi-Welsh collaboration there. It has since been developed a little at meetings at the European Social Forum in Athina/Athens last May as a Welsh and European possibility and will be developed further at the European Peparatory Assembly(ESF) in Frankfurt 3rd-5th November.

'will I be able to post something to uk indymedia & just press a button to send it to the Wales site.....'
*(BAM) The SFCymru 'Forum Newsline' (SFC-FN)Group is, to my knowledge, in favour of a link from and to Indymedia uk, but Anna writes that ' there needs to be a Wales site INSIDE the uk site for this to happen...'

  Anna wrote:
'I still would like there to be some Welsh-oriented site on Indymedia uk.....Who is in opposition to that happening and on what grounds ?...'
*(BAM)The SFC-FN Group is in favour of developing an Independent Media based on the Activist Networks increasingly organising in Social Forums as with SFCymru.
We think that this is a More Effective Model in developing a serious challenge to Corporate (including State) Media domination in Wales.(We do in fact see it as media aimed at the mass of the Welsh population - not just at activists.
Anna, do you think the Indymedia uk model is more effective in being able to achieve this ? What are your arguments for there to be a Welsh-oriented site on the indy uk site? We would certainly appreciate your skills in developing our concept (and existing
'International, European and National News' space on our site.

We do not see the question of the Welsh Language as the main issue in relation to building our site. We have support from people in various Welsh language outfits for our Social Forum political orientation on this.

Gwent Anarchists, Seren - We would appreciate some discussion on these issues -with arguments in favour and against.

Ilyan has expressed interest in coming to the SFC-FN Group meeting (availability of the IT people being the unknown at present, but I will give details when available - and have noted the dates of the Anarchist Book Fair) I warmly invite all people on this list to join us at this next meeting.
I also warmly invite all to contribute NOW to the SFC Forum with their NEWS, EVENTS, COMMENTS etc,.

  Hwyl, Salud, Cheers -BottomsUp,

there has to be a hold up. There are activists in Wales willing to do
the work, Indymedia UK is presumably in favour of diversity and
reflecting what's going on in Wales, the technology is there and,
bob's your uncle - off we go!

Ana has made some very positive concrete proposals as has Genny. I am
happy to contribute to Indymedia Cymru and think the people who run
these things should know how we feel.

There has been a fair bit of negativity on this board in the past,
mainly over fairly obscure technical matters. I don't think we've got
time to be divided on such petty matters, comrades. Far better to
have a platform (even if there are others, the more the merrier) to
reflect the increasing amount of environmental, anti-capitalist and
pro-democracy struggles taking place in Wales.

On the matter of language, I think we should show flexibility. If
there are people willing to post in Welsh and who can provide a
translation, then that should be on Indymedia Cymru. We're a nation
of two national language (as well as several others) and a democratic
voice should reflect that wherever possible. But a monolingual
platform is better, at this stage, than none at all.

All the best

Seren
