Hi Petros, and other friends...

O.K. I did a quick check of your work and it looks like you have set up
the names correctly. Well done. Sounds like we should fire the Indy DNS
folks and get you doing it :-)

They were not the original names we spoke of so the little one line
splash pages I set up in anticipation of the Indy DNS folks work are not
being served right now, but that sould be no more than a 10 minute fix
at this end. all 3 of the names do seem to be correctly pointed to illich.

So, lets assume thats all good... We could indeed then go ahead and
install some Dada's, but there are a few things you should know first.

Because of the way Spud has written Dada if you do it with these new
names, and then at some time in the future wanted to switch to
".indymedia.org" names I think there is a problem, because Dada uses
"hard coded" url's within the media gallery, in other words if you
change the domain name of a site all the media gallery links on the Dada
site will become "broken" even though the content is still there, I have
never seen this problem in the real world, so I may have the details
slightly wrong, but pending clarification from Spud I would advise
caution...

On the other hand you might be so pissed off with Indy that you might
see not being able to use those indy names in the future as a good
thing? I share your frustration belive me...

There are a few other issues outstanding:

During our install of Dada here in Hamilton we discovered several bugs
in the Dada install utility. Spud is aware of them and has asked us to
hold off on doing further setups untill he patches them, I think that
work may be done, but I would like to confirm that prior to going ahead.
Also we have found via trial and error that there are combinations of
features that the Dada admin. interface will let you set which will
leave you with a broken site, the software is far from fully debugged.
Andrew here in Hamilton has done most of the late night sessions working
that stuff out and is, I understand, in process of documenting it, so
in a couple of days we should be able to send you an email with a "what
NOT to do" list when you are setting up your sites. These issues pertain
regardless of which domain names get used, so if you can bear with us
till we get them resolved it will save both of our groups a lot of
hours, and further frustration...

So, how does this sound:

You folks may want to have some discussion to be really sure you want to
go ahead with these non-indy names as a long term thing, and let us know
the results of that.

I will do the full test of those names tomorrow by setting up the 1 line
splash pages

I will then tell Spud we are waiting on him to give us the status of the
installer bug fixes, and hopefully by the time that is done Andrew will
have his hints list ready for you

I think we are within a few days now...

How does this all sound?
