 In an effort to better understand the geography of the Mediterranean  I discovered that Israel and Cyprus share at least one thing in common.  Google maps show no roads.. clearly seen on satellite images but no towns or roads are identified.

anyone able to explain why only these two are so impoverished that they have no towns or roads, -to speak of?
