Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, chairman of a key appropriations
committee, has frozen $55 million in aid to Colombia while the U.S. Congress
investigates President Alvaro Uribe's Army Chief Mario Montoya's
connections to paramilitias and drug dealers.
Timothy Griffin has been appointed U.S. attorney for the eastern
district of Arkansas. Griffin ran 2004 operations in Florida to wrongly purge
minority voters from the state's voter registration list.
Maryland is the first state in the nation to pass a living wage law.
