4) This week's summary
of under-reported news
Compiled by Bob Nixon
A new resettlement program by the Sri Lankan Army is moving over
100,000 people displaced by the ongoing civil war, but the effort is
facing criticism for not living up to international standards on access to
education, water and sanitation.
Democrats in Congress are laying the groundwork for a thaw in Cuba
relations. But the effort is being kept low key, as a sudden shift in
Cuba policy could cost both parties key votes in Florida for the 2008
presidential election.
A long strike by security guards at the main plant for servicing
nuclear weapons may have left the plant vulnerable to terrorist attack.
