Huge spikes in food prices have forced the world's poor to pay double the amount for food they were paying seven years ago.
Sudan's historic peace agreement, signed two years ago to end a bloody 21-year civil war, is in danger of falling apart.
Portland has proposed imposing a fee on builders of new homes which fail to meet energy efficiency guidelines. Buildings are responsible, globally for 45 percent of greenhouse emissions.
