Hi imc-docs maintainers,
Pittsburgh IMC would like to request a tar archive of our files on the
docs.indymedia.org wiki. These files would be named Local/ImcPittsburgh*
Local/IMCPittsburgh* and Local/Pgh* (unfortunately the naming was not
always consistent).
We are deploying our own wiki based on twiki 4.1.2 and would like to
integrate these older pages and their histories. So, both the .txt and
the .txt,v files would be appreciated. (a tar.gz via email should be
fine)
- some additional information, for those who may be interested:
We've come to depend upon twiki for our day-to-day collective functions
and so when docs.indy was unfortunately unavailable, I had to hastily
configure a local twiki installation so that we could continue with our
obligations (most notably, a radio show that airs every week at a fixed
time, and cannot happen without a wiki).
As we know that downtime was longer than expected, and since then we've
come to depend upon features from twiki >= 4 (Dakar and later), as well as
other plugins and customizations. So it seems at this point that we need
a wiki that we can manage, and are prepared to guarantee uptime for. I
personally prefer network-wide shared resources in the indymedia network,
like docs.indy, over local solutions. But I also have a responsibility to
the needs of our local collective, so in this case I'm afraid we need a
locally managed and accountable wiki.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to the imc-docs workers who volunteered to
work on docs.indymedia.org over the years. It has proven to be an
extremely valuable resource, and allowed us to organize and grow our local
IMC at a time when we would not have been able to set up our own wiki. I
know intrigeri and djrom in particular, as well as others I am forgetting,
deserve much credit for providing the indymedia network with this resource
(and chrisc for rescuing the server). I hope that other IMCs can continue
to utilize this resource to strengthen their collectives.
thanks,
Matt Toups
