Seems to me that it depends on the purpose of showing these hidden
comments... abstracted from the discussion they are usually difficult to
interpret. That said included with context they are an invite to
continue a 'hidden' thread. I've always found hidden comment access an
issue on any indy site. Technically however...

Would it not make more sense to run in a hook_nodeapi and in view add
content with comments there (possibly just reusing comment_render with a
access overwrite)?
