Sorry for the lack of clarification and delayed response. Yes, I'm
using "explorer tree" for the javascript in the blocks to collapse the
lists:

The first block contains the js code followed by an html unordered
list of all the taxonomy terms, pulled from the html output of the
"taxonomy dhtml" module (http://drupal.org/project/taxonomy_dhtml).
The second block just contains the list of indymedia cities pulled
from http://indymedia.org/cities.inc and modified to add some IMCs not
listed. I also use the "block cache" module to speed up the loading of
the blocks. Yea, it's a hack job but it seems to work fine for me with
my limited coding experience. I'm sure it's possible to use php to
call the taxonomy terms (like http://drupal.org/node/133445) and put
the results in a list somehow.
