If you are using TinyMCE then img_assist plugs into it well. Then you
get image uploads a way Drupal can handle them, and it's as easy as
placing an image ever will be with these things at the moment. If
someone isn't using TinyMCE then img_assist can seem a little
complicated. But I've always added it as a 'power user' option.

Most people prefer the http://drupal.org/project/upload_image method
though. Which in addition to previewing uploads actually turns them into
 image.module nodes too.
