Hello IMC drupal developers!
The Indymedia Alternatives project is a newly forming globally-organized
topic-based IMC that intends to be a "next generation" IMC site, both in its
content and its technical architecture. The Alternatives IMC will focus on
positive steps people are taking around the world to create viable
alternatives to the current social, political and economic structures. It
intends to not only be a hub for information about these Alternatives, but a
networking hub for the community of those who are actively building them.

The Alternatives IMC group is working on a basic test site that will enable
us to start posting exciting and inspiring content. We're currently
building a Drupal site, and are planning a Code-a-thon for...

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27 (with possible spill-over to SUNDAY, DECEMBER 28)!!

We are going to work together all day on the 27th so we can get the test
site running as much as possible by the end of the year. YOU ARE INVITED!!

Our goal for the 27th is to get the very basics of our test site at "
http://alternativesimc.org" in shape, with our proposed design in place and
with the newswire and features columns fully functional.

On Saturday, December 27 we hope to achieve the following goals:

1) help translate the proposed site design (http://thunderwhip.com/imc/)
into Drupal

2) assure the test site (http://alternativesimc.org) newswire [which we're
calling the SolutionsWire] has the following functions:
-- allows moderators to move articles and comments off the newswire to a
"hidden files" area linked from the main page
-- allows moderators to promote SolutionsWire articles to the features
column
-- allows moderators to rethread articles as comments (in case someone
replies on the newswire instead of commenting on the article)
-- allows for different levels of user logins, enabling both anonymous
publishing of articles and comments with no logging of IP addresses and also
an opportunity for users to login and keep track of their articles and
comments (eventually to be used on their profile page as part of the
"networking" function)
3) Implement other features w/ configuration work, if we have the time &
help.

We should have at least one IRC check-in (in the imc-alternatives channel
on chat.indymedia.org) before Saturday where people can update each other on
progress and get plugged in to focused projects! Check out the proposed
schedule below. We should hang out in IRC at other times so people can get
plugged in during other times, but having set check in points makes it
easier for folks to get involved and gives us a chance to check in with each
other.

Friday, 26th -- 9pm EST -- Preparation for the weekend. Are things in
place? Let's talk about our plans.
Saturday, 27th -- 2pm EST
Saturday, 27th -- 8pm EST

Do you have Drupal skills? Do you want to be part of this exciting project?
 Please e-mail "imc-alternatives at lists.indymedia.org" (cc "
