Subject: [Imc-drupal-dev] Indymedia.be redev: contrib modules

Hello,

We're starting with the redevelopment of our site. You can find a few
first sketches here: http://dev.indymedia.be/sketch/.

I'm also sending a list of contrib modules (see attachment): this list
is still only a draft, but I though I'd send it over. Feel free to
comment on it.

see you soon,
- bruno

-----Inline Attachment Follows-----

Indymedia.be 4.x: contrib modules (using Drupal 5) - work in progress
---------------------------------------------------------------------

- List of contrib modules to use on the new http://indymedia.be
 website.
- Not taking into account possible dependencies of modules.
- This list will change, is it anything but definitive.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Presentation etc

- Views (http://drupal.org/project/views): news wires, different types
 of content listings, agenda, ...
- Nodequeue (http://drupal.org/project/nodequeue): feature listings
- Panels 2 (http://drupal.org/project/panels) + (probably) add-on
modules (carousel, ...): homepage, subsites (local, thematic), dossier pages

2) Content/media

- CCK (http://drupal.org/project/cck): content types
- Extra CCK fields:

    - Email (http://drupal.org/project/email) => or: we might end
'anonymous' posting (as in: posting without a Drupal user account), and
require users to create an account to publish
    - Embedded media field (http://drupal.org/project/emfield): easy
inclusion of eg. YouTube videos in blog posts
    - Imagefield (http://drupal.org/project/imagefield)
    - Link (http://drupal.org/project/link)
    - Filefield (http://drupal.org/project/filefield)
    - ...

- Flashvideo (http://drupal.org/project/flashvideo): video (check if
 this allows distributed video conversion)
- Audio (http://drupal.org/project/audio): audio
- Imagecache (http://drupal.org/project/imagecache): image
 manipulation, photo resizing

3) Community

- Organic groups (http://drupal.org/project/og) + OG add-on modules:
working groups, on line newsroom (where people can collaborate on
 projects)
- Favorite nodes (http://drupal.org/project/favorite_nodes): allow
users to keep a lists of bookmarks of nodes across the site
- Comment notify (http://drupal.org/project/comment_notify): notify
 users of comment follow-up
- Flag content (http://drupal.org/project/flag_content): allow users to
flag content as inappropriate, racist, ...
- Forward (http://drupal.org/project/forward): mail nodes

4) Other

- i18n (http://drupal.org/project/i18n): multi-lingual interface,
 translation
- Vocabperms (http://drupal.org/project/vocabperms): to deal with
 permissions on taxonomy vocabulary permissions
- JStools (http://drupal.org/project/jstools): tabs, ...
- Captcha (http://drupal.org/project/captcha)
- Admin/user menu bar (http://drupal.org/project/admin_menu): admin bar
on top + check if this is also usable for users (links to profile,
 blog, create content, etc).
- Print (http://drupal.org/project/print): printer friendly pages
- Pathauto (http://drupal.org/project/pathauto): automatic aliasing
- Update status (http://drupal.org/project/update_status)
- Tagadelic (http://drupal.org/project/tagadelic)
- Node go to (http://drupal.org/project/nodegoto): take users to a
'thank you'-page with further explanation after posting/editing a new node

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Functionality that is needed, but for which we didn't decide yet what
modules to use. For some of this we have no clear idea yet how to do it.

- Decent search/archive: archive page with views search (exposed
filters + views fast search http://drupal.org/project/views_fastsearch).
Perhaps we could use the core search for this as well, with the advanced
 search (heavily) themed.

- Photo slide show: we would like to have something Flickr-like
(different sizes, thumbnails, easy gallery/slide show functionality,
photographer's portfolio, etc.) Part of this will be done by imagecache. The
discussion on http://groups.drupal.org/image is relevant. Other
 options/interesting: http://drupal.org/project/pictures,
 http://drupal.org/project/mmedia

- Media managment: http://drupal.org/project/asset,
 http://drupal.org/project/acidfree (last update: 08/2007 ?),

- Seperate contact forms for different teams, groups: webforms
 (http://drupal.org/project/webform)? Contact forms
 (http://drupal.org/project/contact_forms)?

- Different subdomain for subsites. We should be able to add subdomains
very quickly, and if we do, a new panel etc. should be created : eg.
 media.indymedia.be, culture.indymedia.be, ... We want to have a system
of subsites (probably using Panels 2) that local groups can manage
 themselves.

- FAQ: http://drupal.org/project/faq looks promising (nice feature
set), although we may opt to build a FAQ content type using CCK.

- Decent mailing list (Mailman) integration
 (http://drupal.org/project/mailman_manager ?).

- WYSIWYG editor: which one to choose ... Eg.
 http://www.civicactions.com/blog/nicedit_a_new_text_editor_for_drupal,
 http://jeffwhatcott.com/drupal/node/21, http://drupal.org/node/200332,
 http://drupal.org/node/208456
