Please don't wait, help and encouragement is needed.. :) Part of the 
reason to use drupal in the first place is there are so many modules to 
choose from and possible content types, views, panels, triggers, 
actions, etc. etc. that can be set up in the db.. I'm not too surprised 
that everyone has been doing their own thing.

So far there's at least one indymedia install profile you can try out 
and report issues, make suggestions etc.

Btw if anyone has install profile grunt work i can help with lemme know 
e.g. converting a db setup to install profile, testing, debugging etc.
