Hi, having just gotten back from drupalcon in boston, where we enjoyed 
sermons by various keynote preachers from Knight Foundation, Google, 
MySQL/Sun, Acquia, etc., i wanted to point folks to this link:

basically Knight Foundation has set up a group where the drupal 
community can discuss journalism-related projects that could use grant 
funding.. and Knight wants to fund whatever good ideas bubble up from 
the community, without too many restrictions on how big or small the 
projects are, or what kind of project, from FLOSS development to hosted 
service.

the foundation seems to have assets that are growing faster than they 
can give money away...

I personally have doubts that Knight would fund a genuine 
grassroots/radical/indymedia-type project and indymedia projects don't 
typically apply for funding, pay their developers etc. anyways.  but i 
think we should float some (non-indymedia-branded) proposals and in any 
case make sure all this funded open-source development is put to good 
use..
