hey there,
Just a quick email to let you know that there is a super lively discussion going on at the imc-communications at lists.indymedia.org about the grant proposal. Currently, there is a block to move forward (although we haven't even made it to the 2nd round) from IMC Rosario in Argentina, and a couple other Indymedias are considering blocks as well.
The block(s) revolve around the idea of Indymedia getting funding or associating itself with a foundation like Knight and their relationship to McClatchy Newspapers. Although I personally know we weren't trying to represent all of Indymedia but... Let the voices be heard. At some point, there was some really cool Chomsky quote about manufacturing consent...
And, I've also heard some voices of support, but I think it boils down to "I have tech troubles too!"
I've been going at it alone on the discussion about this, mainly because it's interesting to me. But just be advised of what is going on... I don't mean to be speaking for all of "us" and have been trying mainly to make points of clarification. I assume we're waiting until Nov 15 to see if we make it to the 2nd round. Either way, the Knight Foundation site doesn't let me to edit/remove our proposal once submitted.
UK is officially removing themselves from the list of participating Indymedias on the grant, mainly because it wasn't clear they wanted to participate to begin with.
I'm really really hoping the conversation will soon develop into the tech problems we're facing @ the global level and how/if funding would help Indymedia overcome this. Or if we can build enough volunteer energy to fix "it"
peace,
sofia
