hi Mark,
I don't think we are in a place to question how Indymedias who are part of this project made the decision to do so. This is not about co-option, it's an Imc Drupal working group who is trying to build something together and we see a necessity to buy ourselves time, literally, to do the best job we can. To me is like paying an artist to paint a mural. Or in this case, radical Imc techs who know and understand the IMC mission. I do not think is fair for people to question my or anyone's commitment to the IMC. All they have to do is look at the product.
The grant started with the Drupal Imc group and I think there is a consensus here that we want to give this a try. Is there? :) But I know we want to also be supportive of other imc-cms... So that's why your idea of cross-platform is excellent. That's why we want to release all the code. That's why there's talk about servers, security, etc.
But yes, there has to be a partial allocation of funds somehow to the global imc so that other Indymedias can ask and use it for their technical needs as they see fit.
And yes, we do want the IMC global network to benefit (this is not just about Bolivia Indymedia... that was an example). But reaching a global consensus on a grant that we might or not might get sounds a bit much, don't you think? Reaching a consensus on how to use the money, that's going to be the difficult... But I am clear in my mind and my heart what the goal is...
best,
Sofia
Ps: Yan, thanks for removing those 2 imcs from the list if you didn't feel comfortable having them up there. :)
