Regarding the technical issues of imc-cms and drupal, I know very little
on how the imc-cms stuff works (or will work) so I don't know how
feasible it is, it's just an idea. I think other folks on this list are
or were involved with imc-cms, or someone should do some research.
One thing I want to mention at the moment is the whole question of
co-option.. If the grant is explicitly supporting indymedia bolivia,
are the IMCs involved getting the explicit support and consensus of the
bolivia collective(s)? If the grant is explicitly supporting the
imc-cms work, are the IMCs involved getting the explicit support &
consensus of the imc-cms working group? If the grant is explicitly
supporting global indymedia, are the IMCs involved getting the explicit
support & consensus of the global network?
I've definitely raised this issue with UC-IMC before so i'm not entirely
surprised the same question is coming up for something they are fiscally
sponsoring. But I would like them to take this to heart and not repeat
past mistakes (maybe it's the high turnover of paid staff). To somewhat
lessen the controversy it seems best to focus the application on one or
a few local IMCs that are fully on board, and from what I read
newschallenge is supposed to be for local projects anyways. If the work
is being done openly and open-source then it will hopefully have wider
benefits automatically.
Although one thing I was wondering... where do I download all the
multi-million dollar open-source stuff that newschallenge has been
building so far? looks like there was some interesting stuff being
worked on @ http://www.newschallenge.org/winners/2007
