Hello hamish, joe, mjray, matt et al.!
It's been great to receive so many speedy and positive responses re: my
earlier email about possibly establishing a norwich-imc ... thank you!
I have been planning to go to the norwich anarchists meeting on tues anyway
so it'll be good to meet people there and maybe this can be summat to talk
about .. thank you Matt, for the email welcome. yes, i have seen 'now and
never' .. someone from norwich anarchists gave me a free introductory copy
@ the anarchist bookfair in london ;-)
anyway, it seems that there are offers of techie help (thank you MJRay and
joe button), and also that there is some energy around actually going thru'
the process of setting up a local site and collective.
i guess that what we need to know more about is whether or not there also is
enough energy locally to contribute content. i've been peeking over the last
couple of mths @ the norwichanarchists and easf sites (good stuff!).
obviously it would be silly to duplicate efforts that already are out there
and it would be useful to talk about how a norwich-imc would be different
and would enhance what exists already. i'm sure that you folks who last year
were thinking along the lines of a norwich-imc have had these conversations,
and i certainly don't want to reinvent any wheels .. any summaries of such
conversations, or perhaps a meeting, could be a plan?
i 'spose that in my imaginings i'm thinking that a norwich-imc would be a
good resource for linking up and weaving together local goings on, without
detracting from the websites/publications of different groups.
also, that it might be a good way of further linking student efforts,
campaigns etc. here @ uea with stuff happnin locally and in norfolk, as well
as linking local and national/international stuff&things.
as someone who has used indymedia for yonks and been part of the
contributing of content over
the years, i also am interested now in being part of an imc and in learning
how all this luvly stuff works in practice. just so that you all know, i
should perhaps be clear now that i work in the university, am involved
with another online publishing project (www.ephemeraweb.org) which is an
open access 'radical theory' journal, and i also currently am involved with
a researchydocumentation type 'project' with some imc-london folks and
others ... via this it is possible that i may be able to push some (limited)
funds towards resourcing a norwich-imc process.
plus, since i'm a norwich newbie i'm not so clued up on wot's out there
around here, but am up for learning and being involved :-) (oh and do give
me a slap if i unwittingly tread on anyone's toes!)
anyways, i'm in the process of taking a look thru' the new imc process docs,
e.g. here:
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkNewImc
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcUK
also, check out the lancaster imc which i believe is the newest uk imc
addition
http://chris.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/lancaster/
apologies for the long ramble .. and looking forward to more ...
bye for now, sian
