hi,

I think many of you are aware that the next G8 summit is going to take
place in St.Petersburg in Russia July 15-17.

Every G8 or any other summit is special, but this one definitely will be
different. The level of repression is going to be pretty high. The
number of activists and the extent of protests is going to be
comparatively small. Still it'll be worthwhile to help make sure that
Putin isn't going to end up with something like 'See, you just need to
use more represssion and you'll have no problem with protests'.

The Russian-language IMC is going to have a rather hard time and the
Russian and Ukrainian activists are going to need all support we can
possibly give them.

1
MONEY

Yes, money is always needed, but in this case there's probably not even
going to be a media center at all because of lack of resources and
capacities. There is going to be repression and as it is there are
practically no lawyers and lawyers will be needed and are going to be
expensive. So if you can do anything to help raise funds for
ru.indymedia.org or the protests in general, please do.

2
REPORTING

There probably won't be as many people in St.Petersburg as there are
usually during summit protests who will work on keeping indymedia pages
updated and other forms of independent reporting. On the other hand the
situation of (mainstream) media in Russia is much worse than in many
(other) 'democratic' countries, and so there will be a big need for
independent reporting. And there is a lot we can do from elsewhere such
as translate, organize translations, publish information on our local
indymedia pages, help with global features, collect reports in different
languages and make them available on ru.indymedia.org, publish calls for
donations etc.etc.
Find out whether there are activists from your countries who are going
and ask them to call you with news, and publish them.

3
COORDINATION

To my surprise I just noticed that we don't have a general imc-g8
mailing list. It doesn't really make much sense to start a new list each
year, does it? I propose that we start imc-g8 at lists... and use that to
communicate, just like #g8 in irc. Hope to see you there!
