Hello IMC Finance,
I am sending this proposal not as IMC Brasil - just to be clear - but as
a Linefeed sysadmin member. I will send a portuguese version of this
proposal latter today.
DEADLINE: February 5, 2009
SHORT INTRODUCTION:
This is a funding proposal to help pay the costs of host for
Linefeed.org servers. The total cost for 4 servers for 1 year, which is
$2880 USD. Linefeed has being hosting IMC websites for more than 8
years. We host 15 Indymedia websites right now. Our servers are hosted
at the SFCCP [http://sfccp.net] - a non-profit community colocation
project that offers secure host for over 30 servers, since 2007.
SUMMARY:
Linefeed decide to write a call to all IMC's we host asking them the
support us to send this proposal to Global IMC Finance. Bellow you can
see the signatures of those who replied, unfortunately we couldn't wait
for all the replies to send this proposal because we had to send it out
before the end of January, 2009. Linefeed collective is a
non-hierarchical group with sysadmins from Latin America, USA and
Europe, all of them are part of the Indymedia network as well, who helps
voluntary on keeping the servers running.
This request will directly help the Indymedia network but will also help
other community groups and social movements around the world, who also
benefits from the work done by Linefeed. We try as much as we can to
cover the costs of such work, for instance we just received hardware
donations from Wikimedia and this will help us upgrade our servers and
also allow us to share some hardware with other radical tech collectives
- mostly those in Latin America. Our members also donates money when it
is possible to cover some costs we have. Although, the hosting costs are
- so far - something we still need to ask help for. We are trying very
hard to change this, by looking for other potential funds, we also would
like to ask for help on that, if you know any foundation that would help
projects like Linefeed or SFCCP please give us their contact, we really
appreciate it.
We understand that the Global Indymedia Financial team only accepts
funds proposal from Indymedia's collectives, there is why we asked the
collectives which we host to let us know if they would support the
initiative of us, Linefeed, send this request to Global Indymedia. This
money will cover the hosting costs for 4 server for a period of 1 year
(Feb 2009/Jan 2010).
DETAILS:
We are asking for $2880 USD from the Indymedia Global Fund for the
annual payment of 4 Lineeed servers which are used to host 15 Indymedia
sites (one of those sites is not in production yet) and the organization
site for sf-active - one of the CMS platforms used by the Indymedia
network. As we mentioned before, we also hosts other sites from
community groups and social movements around the world. Linefeed
collective has being also helping on build a new cms for the indymedia
network: http://cms.indymedia.org and hosts the manager site for this
project.

SANTIAGO DE CHILE LETTER:
Dear Comrads,
Writing from Santiago de Chile, in a month which in here the
mobilizations and the "revolutionaries" goes on vacations. In Indymedia
Santiago we don't rest, though we are a few now, we don't loose our hope
to re-grow this year which is just beginning and will come loaded with
demonstrations.
We hope to continue counting with you, the work the Comrads of Linefeed
does is what allows us to keep denouncing via Indymedia and with the
host and confidentiality needed for these days when the repression
intend to stop us.
As Indymedia Santiago Collective we know how it is distressing to be
without a site, when it is down for many different reasons. Our comrads
call us asking what is going on with the site and is in time like this
that we realize how is important to have a counterinformation media and
we are very thankful that we can count with you comrads to allow us to
be on the internet.
If we could have the means to help you, we would. We can only pledging
to continue the work we do and see if we can create a support network
where people can make their contributions.
We didn't replied it before because we didn't had the letter, we do it
now hoping to arrive on time and be able to join those who are
requesting to keep this experience and improve it to continue our work
of agitation, dissemination, struggle and resistance.
A brotherly and libertarian hug...

esperando llegar a tiempo y poder sumarnos a quienes solicitarán
mantener esta experiencia y mejorarla para continuar con nuestro trabajo
de agitación, difusión, lucha y resistencia.
Un abrazo fraterno y libertario...
