A CALL TO FAIR TRADE AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE AMERICAS!

TO: All Organizers & Leaders
FROM: Protest the OAS: United for Justice in the
Americas
RE: OAS General Assembly ? PROTEST!!

THE STRUGGLE TO STOP THE FREE TRADE AREA OF THE
AMERICAS (FTAA) IS NOT OVER! The next round will be
held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, JUNE 3-9, 2005.

Activists throughout South Florida are organizing a
protest with other activities at the upcoming General
Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS),
the originator of both the FTAA and the proposed
Central American Free Trade Area (CAFTA). Secretary
of State Condoleeza Rice will be meeting with 1,200
dignitaries in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, arriving on
Friday, June 3rd, primarily to discuss "free" trade.
We must send a powerful message rejecting ?free? trade
and its implications for our human, environmental, and
economic rights.

Plans include a march to the OAS meeting site with a
peaceful protest, a multi-cultural festival, and an
OAS Counter-Ministerial. At our
Counter-Ministerial, discussions will be led by
community representatives from the Americas on issues
of fair trade, environmental protection, and human
rights. Many organizations have already endorsed, with
more endorsements on the way. Supportive groups as of
this writing (April 21) include: The Broward Anti-war Coalition, Circulo
Bolvariano de MIAMI nEGRA Y hIPOLITA, hAITI Solidarity Commitee, Miami for
Peace, The North Miami Collectives, Rattle the Cage, Sierra Club, Veye Yo,
many more to come!!

Organizers working under the coalition, Alliance for Justice in the
Americas and Caribbean, wish to
coordinate with any local, state, national, or
international organizations which may already have
plans to attend or mobilize for this OAS protest
event. Please contact us ASAP to let us know
what actions you and your organization are willing to
participate in. You may contact us, preferably by
email (anti-oas at lists.riseup.net), or by calling Jack
 at 305-582-4846 or Rebecca
at 305-756-4686.

This important OAS/FTAA meeting will
happening in less than two months. IT IS URGENT THAT
WE HEAR FROM YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE MUST MOBILIZE
NOW!

See you in Fort Lauderdale in June!
