Dear Internet Archive/www.archive.org admins,
Hows it going. I am contacting you in relation to work that is
currently happening within the UK and other Indymedia collectives in
the run up to the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, in the first week
of July this year.
I am contacting you because I have noticed that you are currently
archiving the "Democracy Now!" show in DVD-compliant MPEG2 format,
about two or three times a week, with each show clocking in at roughly
3 GB.
In the aftermath of the various actions, counter summits and protests
during the G8, we were looking for a place to store MPEG2
footage/rushes so people could download them and make their own films
with the footage - rather than having one collective making _the_
defining film of the actions.
Do you think you would be able to afford space on the archive.org
servers for this kind of material for people to access? (PAL
DVD-Compliant MPEG2)
If you feel that this is not workable, possible alternatives -
- leave the raw material up for a limited period of time?
- use p2p filesharing instead via www.legaltorrents.com?
If you have any other suggestions or ideas then feel free to air them,
we are open to anything.
At the moment, UK Indymedia people are changing the G8 page on their
site, and this will change more as the G8 nears. This could include
information on how to publish on archive.org with the CCPublisher
Tool.
There are more possible issues surrounding footage, primarily legal
and security, but we can discuss these in the near future, this email
is just to make initial contact with you.
There is an alternative media conference taking place in London in 3
weeks time. I hope you can reply to this email soon so the people
attending the conference will have something to base their discussions
on the best way of creating videos and films with the footage from the
G8.
OK thanks, hope to hear from you soon
(this email has been copied to the G8 IMC list, and the general IMC Video list)
