[Imc-g8-2005] Glasgow Independent Media Centre

more things happening...

there was a meeting in glasgow this week to look at establishing an alt media
centre for glasgow. 

there were people from imc scotland / uk network, camcorder guerrillas and the
magazine varient there.

several venues are being looked at - one is available for more of an info-space
and some video editing rather than a full on open access media space.

a space in glasgow will be useful for the cre8 summit carnival day and the make
borders history glasgow events as well as a lot of people returning from the
faslane blockade. it's clear that on other days that the space may not be
needed by so many folks.

while people are keen to colloborate and co-ordinate with indymedia, it was
clear that there are other media groups with their own identity who do not want
to just call themselves indymedia. while this discussion is ongoing in glasgow,
one idea was to call it something like the Glasgow Independent Media Alliance
in collaboration with Indymedia etc - kind of like the way people in the states
have done with previous mobilisations - eg see the "NYC Grassroots Media
Coalition" imc centre for the RNC protests last year:

either way it's another imc space getting off the ground :))

one thing that was requested was some workshops prior to the g8 summit week -
especially digitising video for quick web publishing - but also on using the
imc websites, since all agreed that imc would be the key publishing tool.

other requests included sorting an ftp server as has previsouly been discussed
making it easier to upload and share video etc

NB this project is also in relation to establishing an ongoing media space for
glasgow after the g8.

meetings are scheduled for the next few weeks to continue working on the ideas
before feeding into the london convergence event.
