[Imc-g8-2005] dispatch software system

Hi,
I've been in touch with the global tech list to find out what happened
to the site that we used to coordinate dispatch and confirm info during
the Evian and Thessaloniki demonstrations. Apparently that site,
http://dispatch.indymedia.it , is no longer in use / no longer used. A
replacement has been built, it is at http://input.devel.indymedia.org/
We have found in the past that this sort of site is really useful for
figuring out what information is confirmed / unconfirmed, and is a great
resource to point translators to. Basically, the people working the
dispatch system in IRC can put raw info into this site, and then mark
things "confirmed" once they are confirmed - at that point the news
items on it can get translated into multiple languages and disseminated
across Europe and the world very quickly (keep in mind that we have a
responsibility to report this event not only in English, but to make
sure that material is available for translation as quickly as possible
too :) )
A few things about it:
a) currently the people working on the "INPUT" tool do not have access
to the server it is on, and it hasn't been developed for about a year
b) currently the translation features in it don't work; this is no big
deal, as most of the translators are used to dealing with the
http://translations.indymedia.org site (we just use that)
c) it needs to be password-protected obviously (can be accomplished with
.htaccess files pretty easily)
If we want to use this thing, we can either set it up ourselves, ask
somebody else to set it up so we don't have to worry about it, or ask
the people who wrote it to try to get access to the server and just run
it from where it is now ( http://input.devel.indymedia.org ).
Personally I think it's a great tool and helps the people on the spot to
not have to do anything, because it allows a lot of stuff to be
accomplished by the invisible armies in cyberspace while we relax in the
media centre, smoking cigarettes.
Does anybody want to have a go at setting it up, or should we ask
somebody else to do it (personally I feel a little overstretched at the
moment)?
I hope everybody's doing well,
Yossarian
