Communications

Some ideas from the London Indymedia meeting on how to better facilitate
communications in the run up to the G8.

Post media converge:

To make sure ideas and information is distributed to those that showed
an interest at the media convergence; the participants can be followed up
individually on email, in case they are not familiar with Indymedia
information structures.

We could use the announce list to post weekly or fortnightly news
blasts.

Communication from and between working groups:

We can ask the various working groups engaged in the production of alt.
media or the media centre itself, to post a short feature about the
type of work they do for the website, with an email for people interested to
get involved (i.e. tech. radio, video features for a start).

Could the working groups all post a weekly report of their progress,
needs, concerns or breakthroughs to the g8 list.

We need to establish what working groups there are in what location,
using what current email-working list.

IRC:

When using IRC, prepare proposals beforehand!
Prepare agendas, or a brief structure on email and distribute it with
proposals before your proposed irc meeting takes place.

WIKI:

The wiki could do with being more user friendly.
One proposal could be to have the front page with perhaps just the
working group lists and working pages, then a link into the rest of the
body of information provided in the wiki. This may make the information
seem a bit more digestible, particularly for people going to the wiki for
the first time.

Coordination Volunteers:

There is a need for two volunteers to work a) pulling in transport
offers and b) offers of kit.

In terms of tech kit, someone that works with video would be great as
there are specific needs in video tech that a ‘techy’ may not be aware
of.

These two volunteers will have to liase with one another as kit offers
often have transportation needs attached.
