Hi text below is for a basic introduction call out / email letter to local
group etc - it's not designed for a flyer though.
===============================
MAKING OUR OWN MEDIA AT THE G8
Indymedia and other alternative and independent media groups are working
together to provide our own grassroots media coverage of the events around
the G8 Summit - and we're asking for your participation.
If you're going along to the G8 events like the counter conferences,
cultural events, demonstrations or protests then why not join other people
in making our own media.
People are encouraged to publish their own written reports about events on
the Indymedia websites (see the links below - anyone can publish on the
websites - just hit the 'publish button' and follow the instructions).
During the G8 there is also a need for teams of video volunteers and
photographers to cover the various events and protests - if you've got a
camera you can take part and publish your own pictures! Volunteer audio
reporters are also needed to provide audio coverage of the protests,
actions and counter conferences - recording, interviewing, editing and
uploading audio reports.
To support people making their own media there will be a main Independent
Media Centre (IMC) located in central Edinburgh with internet connected
computers. It will open several days before the G8 protests and time will
be allocated for some very basic training as well as co-ordination meetings.
Indymedia is committed to trying to make the centre a welcoming place where
people with little experience of media activism can plug in, join street
media teams, and get started in the empowering process of making our own
media. People are needed to help run the centre and to provide training,
kit needs to be sourced, set up, and run over a full week of protests.
People will be asked to sign up when they arrive and to join various
volunteer media teams. Note: Mainstream corporate media are not invited!
Other groups are also going to set up a smaller Independent Media Centre in
Glasgow. There are also plans for other facilities closer to Gleneagles
where the G8 Summit will be held, and at other locations.
A special invite goes out to people who want to participate in independent
media but have not yet known how to do so - we don't have the resources to
train everyone, but we do believe that most people can "be the media", and
if you can work cooperatively with other people we are confident that you
will find a way to contribute. We need your help if the summit coverage is
to be successful.
We firmly believe that the independent media coverage for this event needs
to be self-organized. Indymedia is 100% voluntary and does not have the
resources or desire to have any sort of corporate-style management
structures. So, if you think something needs to be done, you need to get
involved to make it happen.
For more information and to find out how to get involved check out the
Indymedia websites at:

And to get in touch or offer help email us at:

Thanks, and remember - all we need is your participation!
Don't hate the media - be the media!
