Hello edlugers,
Indymedia [1] will be setting up a reporting centre for the G8, in
ex-church above the Forest Café/Art Space [2].
It will run from June 29th. A network of computers will be set up to
enable activist reporters to edit and upload reports, photos and
footage. They will run on GNU/Linux, probably as thin (ish?) clients.
Also there will be some pretty groovie mobile reporting facilities.
Allot of kit has come up from London but if you can donate monitors and
odd harddisk that would be really helpful then get in touch with them
via their email list [3], or email me with your phone number, as that is
what I think they are short of at moment.
Also if you fanny popping along at set up time your expertise may be
helpful but indymedia does have it's fair share of those used to setting
up such network. Also you may just want to be in on it to help and
observe. It would be good to make links between some EdLUGers and
Indymedia (tech) folk.
Access to the Independent Media Centre, will be by arrangement for those
helping with project, mainly those reporting. A registration process has
yet to be sorted. This is to prevent people just trying to use it to
check email etc. So if you do want to check it out introduce yourself on
their list soon or email me, and I will pass on details.
I will hopefully be setting up some iMac with Ubuntu [4] in another
office to be used during the G8 Summit.
cheers,
Micah
