[Imc-g8-2005] Covering the issues at the G8

Hi all,

One of the things discussed at the Bristol network gathering was ways in
which we can encourage the use of Indymedia for more in-depth coverage
of the issues people are protesting about alongside reports of actions.
We decided to discuss these ideas on imc-g8-2005 at lists.indymedia.org, so
please subscribe if you're interested and send any replies to that list.
I've cross-posted this to the outreach list, because part of the
proposal involves outreach to groups interested in the issues, and to
the network list so that liasons can forward to their local collectives.

A working group came up with some suggestions of action we could take to
facilitate the sort of reporting we want:

1. Outreach to groups and individuals who know about issues, getting
features written in advance that can go up when actions start happening.

2. Page design, encouraging links to analysis alongside action reports
(for example, an 'issue of the day' feature).

3. Mainstream media watch, to allow responses to progressive-sounding
bullshit coming out of the G8 and to smears against protestors.

I've set up a wiki page for developing these ideas at
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/ReportingIssuesG8 . Please
contribute (I know a number of people in the working group meeting took
more comprehensive notes than me, so I've probably missed useful stuff
that was discussed there).

Probably the most immediate action to take is creating and contacting
the list of groups and individuals interested in various issues. I've
made a very quick stab at setting up the skeleton of such a list at
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/IssuesAndContactsG8 . So far it
only includes groups I could think of off the top of my head, but I'll
do some actual research and add some more. Please add more issues and
contacts - if you are involved in or in touch with a particular group
already, it might be worth mentioning that on the wiki.
